Batman: A Celebration Of The Classic TV Series

Way back in 1966, not long after I turned 13 years old, the ABC Network announced that it would be premiering a new Batman TV series in the Fall.

As an avid comic book reader and collector I was thrilled and excited.

While I read far less DC Comics than Marvel Comics at the time, one of the DC Comics I still kept up with was Batman.

When the show finally aired on TV I was there front and center taking in every scene.  At the end of the first episode cliffhanger, the announcer spoke of the upcoming episode airing the same week!  WOW!

For the three years the showed aired, I never missed an episode, despite its over-the-top campiness and silliness.

I still marveled at the Dynamic Duo, their cast of characters, especially the villains, the Batcave, the Batmobile, Robin’s motorcycle and all the various and exotic gadgets Batman cooked up.  When the Batman movie came out I was front row and center.

Over the course of the show’s run, villains would occasionally switch actors and actresses (Catwoman being the most obvious), Batgirl was introduced and the action and antics got wilder with each episode.

Titan Books and writers Bob Garcia and Joe Desris proudly present their new hardbound, oversize book: ‘Batman: A Celebration Of the Classic TV Series’.

Besides being cleverly designed as if to look as if Batman’s utility belt is binding the book, it contains a plethora of Batman goodies.

Learn how the show came about, why it was decided to go for campiness, how the actors were chosen, who wrote the music, the special visual and physical effects, post and pre-production, costume designs and so much more.

Jammed packed with full-color and black and white photos, both in front of and behind the cameras, production sketches and art, set designs, vehicle designs and even an episode directory, the book is so much fun to look and read I found myself totally immersed in its pages.

“Holy page-turner Batman!”  It’s nostalgia at its very best and a whole lot of fun to boot!

Dare is say it? “Same Bat time, same Bat station!
